KHR is the three-character currency abbreviation for the Cambodian Riel based on the ISO-4217 standard codes. KHR is the official currency of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The National Bank of Cambodia is the government institution that issues the KHR. The KHR divides into smaller units called sen. One hundred sen make one Cambodian Riel. The KHR is considered a very minor currency and is not actively traded in the international currency markets. The value of the KHR is determined by a managed float, meaning that the central bank allow market forces determine the value of the KHR, within an amount set by the bank. The approximate conversion value (in late 2005) for the KHR in US dollars is KHR 4,000+ to USD 1.
