OEX

OEX is the ticker symbol for the S&P 100 stock index, which is a capitalization-weighted index. Standard & Poor’s computes the value of the OEX during trading hours every 15 seconds. OEX options trade on the Chicago Board Options Exchange, or CBOE. The OEX options are available for the four nearby months, and expire on the Saturday following the third Friday of the month. OEX options are settled in cash. OEX options are American options, although European options are available, too, on the XEO. OEX options give the investor a way to take a position in the performance of the equity market without taking a position in any individual company directly. Similar indices to the OEX are the SPX, or S&P 500 Index, and the NDX, or the NASDAQ 100 Index.
