XOI Index
|
The XOI Index represents the symbol of the American Stock Exchange (AMEX) Oil Index. At its inception in August 1984, the XOI Index was set at a value of 125. The XOI Index tracks a group of companies (i.e. there were 13 in 2008) involved in the oil industry. Companies included within the XOI Index are involved in activities that include exploration, development, and production of petroleum. The XOI Index is a price weighted index. As a result, a small company trading at a high price will have a greater impact on the XOI Index than a large corporation with a lower share price. Despite this limitation, the XOI Index is a widely followed index. XOI also refers to the trading symbol of the XOI Index option traded on AMEX.
